Project Profile: Beacon Provides Construction Consulting Services for Transitional Housing Renovation Project in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Beacon Consulting Group was retained by a leading Surety to provide construction consulting / surety claims consulting services related to a homeless shelter renovation project in downtown Fort Lauderdale, FL. Beacon was hired to help ensure that the project was completed following the default of the General Contractor on the project. The $1.2-million first phase of the building's renovation included the upgrade / renovation of bathrooms, shower rooms, and adjoining spaces used by residents. This entailed upgrades to mechanical systems, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler, and fire alarm. The project also included all related finish work (such as painting, tile work, flooring, etc). Kieran O'Connor served as Beacon's Lead Consultant and Project Manager for this assignment.
Beacon's role in the project included all of the following:
- Oversee / Monitor / Assist GC in completing remaining contract work
- Project Management / Supervision Assistance
- Project Closeout Management
The Central Homeless Assistance Center (CHAC), located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, is a facility run by the Broward Partnership, a non-profit organization and the largest comprehensive homeless services provider in Broward County. The CHAC can house up to 230 people who would otherwise be without a home. Thus, getting this project back on track (so the facility could get back to full capacity) was critically important for the organization and the CHAC's residents. After being hired by the Surety, Beacon became involved in September of 2023 and helped to ensure that the Phase 1 work was completed in December of 2023.
