Beacon Staff Profile: Dan Newcombe, Construction Superintendent & Project Manager
Dan Newcombe is a seasoned construction expert with 28+ years of experience working on domestic and international projects. Dan has extensive hands-on experience managing virtually every aspect of a construction project. His knowledge, experience, and incredible interpersonal skills make Dan an invaluable member of Beacon's team. We caught up with Dan recently and asked him some questions about working in the Construction Consulting field (see below).
Dan helps Beacon's clients by closely managing and monitoring on-site aspects of projects including site coordination and logistics, site safety, scheduling / manpower requirements, inspection and testing, and quality control. His depth of knowledge and experience makes him uniquely qualified to work with and oversee GC personnel, subcontractors, and the wide range of vendors involved in complex construction projects.
Dan has worked with Beacon Consulting Group, Inc. since 2006. During this time, he has successfully consulted on and helped manage an extensive portfolio of projects, including construction consulting assignments at universities, healthcare facilities, public and private schools, high-rise buildings, commercial and residential spaces, excavation projects, government buildings / facilities, hotels, and a wide range of other project types.
Dan's great sense of humor and ability to stay cool under challenging conditions help to make him a valuable member of any project team. Most important, Dan is quite serious when it comes to doing a job right and closely overseeing each phase of a project to help ensure that work is completed safely and efficiently. He is always looking out for the interests of Beacon's clients, as well as the safety and well-being of on-site staff.
Question: How many years have you been working in the Construction Field?
Dan: 28 years
Question: Do you remember what the first project was that you worked on for Beacon?
Answer: Brooklyn Public Library – Kings Highway Branch Renovation (2006)
Question: What do you like about working onsite at construction projects?
Dan: I like being out in the field where I can have a very direct impact on getting projects done correctly, which means getting the work done safely, on time, with good quality control, and on budget. I also like working with a wide range of people, which is a big part of this job.
Question: What is one of the more interesting projects you worked on since joining Beacon?
Dan: There have been many interesting projects, but "One Vanderbilt" is a project that stands out. This is a 93-story super-tall skyscraper located near Grand Central Station in New York City. It's currently the 5th tallest building in the U.S. and 4th tallest in NYC. It was awesome to be involved with such a massive, high-profile project. Now it's a big tourist attraction, in addition to having many well-known commercial tenants.
Question: What do you like to do in your free time?
Dan: I mostly enjoy spending time with my wife and our two kids. I coach my son's hockey team and am currently teaching my daughter how to ski.
Question: Do you have any favorite places to travel when you go on vacation with your family?
Dan: The Dominican Republic is probably our favorite place to go. It's very relaxing and the weather is great. The resorts and beaches there are beautiful.
