A new report issued by the New York Building Congress (NYBC) in October projects that New York City construction spending will reach a record level of $43.1 billion in 2016. The Report (New York City Construction Outlook 2016-2018) notes that this will be the first time annual NYC construction spending has ever passed the $40 billion mark. The 2016 level represents a 26 percent increase from 2015 (when construction pending was $34.3 billion).
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) announced the opening of its new Wachusett commuter rail station, with limited commuter service starting on Friday, September 30th. MBTA currently projects that the station will be ready for a full train service schedule later this Fall. Meanwhile, other construction related to the new station is ongoing.
The Pearlman Association, based in Washington State, is a professional association which holds an annual conference for Surety & Fidelity industry professionals. At this year's meeting, held September 7-9, 2016 in Woodinville, WA, Beacon's President Dennis O'Neill was a co-presenter on a presentation titled "Trying Times — Trying Performance Bond Cases."
Boston's Back Bay neighborhood is famous for its rows of historic Victorian brownstone homes and some famous 19th & 18th century buildings, such as Boston Public Library's McKim building. Along with the adjoining Beacon Hill area, Back Bay is known as one of Boston's most expensive neighborhood's in terms of real estate prices.
As reported in recent E-news, Beacon Consulting Group, Inc. was selected to provide construction consulting and surety consulting services related to the completion of a new building project at Rutgers University (Piscataway, NJ). Beacon has provided a wide range of on-site and consulting services to support the Surety on this project. The interconnected buildings being constructed will be a state-of-the-art, 145,000 square foot multi-purpose facility—the new home for Rutgers' Chemistry & Chemical Biology (CCB) Department. The CCB building(s) will house classrooms, research facilities, laboratories, conference rooms, offices, a large auditorium and other multi-use spaces.

The Wachusett Extension Project is an ongoing construction project owned by Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The project will extend a Boston metropolitan area commuter rail line by building a new station in Fitchburg, MA and a train layover facility in Westminster, MA.
Beacon Consulting Group’s sister company, Beacon Merchant Construction, Inc., is a construction company approved to perform GC work for all NYC agencies, with bonding capacity sufficient to take on major projects. Beacon Merchant is currently the General Contractor for a site improvement project now underway for the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY). The project is taking place at DSNY’s Brooklyn-15 (BK-15) Garage, a truck-storage, parking, and maintenance facility located on a waterfront location in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.
Now that the summer is here, the "Beacon Bears" are coming out of hibernation and are gearing up for another exciting softball season. The Bears are a co-ed, slow pitch softball team organized by Beacon Consulting Group's Medford, MA office. The team plays in an after-work league, with games taking place on the fields in Boston Common, downtown's Boston's historic park.
