Each year in early December, members of Beacon's team gather in Boston for our annual company meeting and holiday dinner. This year, our meeting was held on December 7th at the Omni Parker House Hotel in downtown Boston. Following the meeting, our team celebrated with a delicious holiday dinner, live music, great company, some singing, and even a little dancing at Ristorante Fiore in Boston's North End.
Beacon's Annual Meeting is a great opportunity for us to review some of the lessons learned from projects we worked on throughout the year. It's also an important part of our company's planning process for the year ahead. This year's meeting was very special as we celebrated the completion of our 15th year in business, as well as 10-year anniversaries for some of our key staff members (Mike Kinahan, Karen Anderson, Janet Mosey, and Dan Newcombe). Needless to say, bringing together our teams from different locations is always a pleasure and festivities continued late into the evening on Friday night!
One of the themes at this year's meeting was "Mitigating Risk for Performing Sureties." We had an interesting panel discussion focusing on this area, with two special guests—attorneys Todd Braggins, Esq. (Ernstrom & Dreste, LLP) and Jonathan Burwood, Esq. (Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald LLP). Todd and Jonathan, both of whom are Surety and Construction law specialists, provided the legal perspective regarding what information and factors help performing Sureties to make better-informed decisions at the start of a bond claim, as well as during the construction project completion process. From Beacon's team, Dennis O'Neill, Jim Bruno, John Yeung, and Mike Kinahan participated in the discussion, providing the construction consultant's perspective. Special thanks to Todd and Jonathan for taking the time out of their busy schedules to join us!
