Beacon Providing Surety Consulting/Construction Management Oversight Service For Project at U.S. Army Facility in Natick, MA
As part of a larger Surety Consulting assignment involving multiple project sites across the U.S., Beacon Consulting Group is providing Construction Management Oversight services for a project underway at a U.S. Army research facility located in Massachusetts. The project, which entails the construction of a 2-story 8,400-square-foot building addition, was approximately 30% complete and significantly delayed prior to Beacon being retained by a leading Surety company to help get the project back on track.
- Among the services being provided by Beacon on the project are all of the following
- Assessing the cost to complete for the project
- Providing construction management oversight on a wide variety of work underway (including installation of cinder block walls, roofing, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing)
- Reviewings the construction schedule and taking action to accelerate progress
- Reviewing claims, change orders and RFIs
- Reviewing and overseeing payment of specific subcontractors
As of mid-September 2019, remaining work includes the installation of doors and windows, final electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work, elevator installation, sitework, landscaping and finish work. Because the project is located within a military facility, there are aspects of the project that differ from ‘typical’ construction projects. Security clearance is required for all individuals to obtain site access, and the process of getting on the jobsite includes a stringent protocol of security inspections. There are also several somewhat ‘unique’ material specifications associated with the project. For example, windows and doors must be blast proof. Thus, prior to installation calculations must be performed to determine if they meet the specific blast criteria. Beacon's team has extensive experience working on construction consulting assignments at military bases and other government facilities.
