Beacon Providing Construction Consulting Services For NYC Police (NYPD) Station Project
Beacon Consulting Group was selected by a leading Surety company to provide construction consulting services related a new police station being built in New York City. The 40th Precinct reconstruction project entails the ground-up construction of a 43,000-sf police station in the Melrose neighborhood of the South Bronx. The site is located about 1.5 miles from Yankee Stadium.
Following the default of the original concrete contractor on the project, the Surety retained Beacon to develop a re-let package (and help manage the re-let process) for the project's concrete work. The total value for the construction project is in excess of $68 million.
Construction at the site started in 2018 and is currently ongoing. The building features a very futuristic design created by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group). It is reportedly the first NYPD station designed with a green roof and features non-reflective materials such as sandblasted concrete to optimize the building’s energy efficiency. The building design meets requirements for LEED Silver certification. The building’s multi-faced façade is designed to enable sunlight to reach all the main interior spaces. The novel design will also help to reduce stormwater runoff compared to more traditional buildings.
