As I write this note, I'm down working in Beacon's New York City office in Midtown Manhattan. This is just a few short blocks from where Beacon was founded 20 years ago this week. At that time, I was a young engineer in my early 30s. I had spent the last several years working in Construction Consulting and had worked my way up to managing the fast-growing New York office for a national construction consulting firm. They were busy and exciting years.

Starting a new business was a pretty big risk back then. My wife Laura and I had one young daughter and were planning to have more kids soon. I had a stable career and lots of opportunities for growth. However, I saw that there was a tremendous need for the kind of company that Beacon Consulting Group would become: A firm that specialized in helping Surety companies, insurance providers, and other clients to manage and mitigate their financial risks by providing highly-focused construction consulting services. Luckily, I convinced my wife (and some of our early clients) that Beacon Consulting Group could provide valuable services and become a successful venture.

Over the past 20 years, Beacon Consulting Group's journey and success in our field has met and exceeded my greatest expectations. There are too many specific people to thank in this small space. So, I will have to speak in general terms. First, I would like to thank the many clients who have entrusted Beacon Consulting Group over the past 20 years. Together as partners, we have taken on some of the most difficult construction consulting and construction management challenges imaginable. We have turned around hundreds of troubled construction projects to convert them into great success stories.

Next, I would like to thank our incredible staff of Project Managers, Project Engineers, Surety Claims Consultants, Construction Site Managers, Estimators, Schedulers, and other construction consulting specialists and support staff. I'm happy to say that I have made many close, life-long friends on our team. We have built a highly professional, experienced and competent staff. Even more important, they are all great people who I truly care about and respect. It's such a tremendous feeling of satisfaction to see how our team members grow every year, both professionally and as unique individuals. It's truly like having a second family. Thirdly, I would like to thank the many partners who we have worked together with over the years, especially the many great law firms, accounting firms, financial institutions, and others who also serve the same client base. Finally, I have to thank my wonderful wife Laura, who has been my rock over the past 20 years, as well as our three great "kids" who have grown into incredible young adults (who I could not be prouder of)!

Of course, I could go on and on from here (such as thanking my own siblings, parents, extended family, friends, and mentors who helped me along the way, with advice and support of every kind). Let me end here by saying Beacon Consulting Group would never have made it this far without your love, support, and encouragement! I am truly thankful for you all. Growing Across The U.S. (and beyond!)

Over the past 20 years, Beacon's team has grown to include professionals living and working in 8 different states around the U.S. In addition, we have established a European presence, with a partner office in Ireland and "boots on the ground" in that country too. Today, we have offices in New York, Massachusetts, Florida, and California. We are actively managing projects in a number of different states across the country and I'm always getting ready to fly or drive to the next job. As of 2023, there are only 2 U.S. states where Beacon's team has not yet worked on a project (Alaska and North Dakota). Hopefully we can get some work in those states this year! Our team has also worked on projects in Canada and England.

One of the greatest satisfactions of working in Construction Consulting and Construction Management is that many of the projects we work on (whether new construction or renovations) result in physical structures that will benefit many people for years to come.
